At present, the government’s objective is to try and relieve poverty and create wealth merely by
distributing wealth; it will not work. And owing to the policy directions associated with this objective, economic growth does not take place and poverty and unemployment are on the rise.

Affirmative Action, or rather race-based action, is leaving a trail of economic destruction behind.

COVID19 WEBSITE PRENTJIE AFRIKAANS VRYHEIDSFRONT

The COVID-19 pandemic and consequent lockdown have caused severe damage to many businesses and have left many unemployed. Many have lost their source of income. This suffering does not make any distinctions based on skin colour. Yet, the South African government is using race as the criteria to aid businesses.
There are numerous smaller business enterprises, like sole proprietors, that cannot meet the requirements for Black Economic Empowerment (BEE). These enterprises were born out of entrepreneurship, irrespective of race, and benefit the entire economy and job creation and in many cases, these enterprises are the first step to even greater entrepreneurship.

Many of these businesses are prohibited from trading during the lockdown period and in many cases, this ban may remain in place for a long time to come. These businesses need aid specifically because they will serve as the spark that will help to once again ignite the economy after lockdown.

Numerous of these businesses are facing bankruptcy and ultimate closure and should they disappear from the scene after Covid-19, it would be a severe blow to our chances of speedy economic recovery.

If the economy does not recover, people of all races will suffer and that suffering will not make any distinctions based on skin colour.

TEKEN DIE PETISIE AFRIKAANS VRYHEIDSFRONT

I, the undersigned, am opposed to racial discrimination, call on government to offer aid to all small, medium and micro enterprises regardless of skin colour and supports a dispensation of equal opportunities for all.

Skin colour cannot be used as a generalised indication of being disadvantaged and therefore, skin colour can also not be used as a condition for empowerment.

Socio-economic conditions, like poverty, unemployment and a lack of access to quality education should rather be used as the criteria for empowerment.

Race-based appointments and quotas threaten economic freedom and reduce the criteria used for appointments to nothing but race while expertise, abilities and experience are disregarded. Using skin colour as the criterion for empowerment is a manifold injustice.

Most South Africans are directly or indirectly adversely affected by race-based legislation and quotas.

    HBBF Currently Disadvantaged Business Fund

The Currently Disadvantaged Business Fund (HBBF) was established to raise funds to support small businesses that do not qualify for assistance from government.

Many small businesses are gravely affected due to the lockdown but do not receive relief from other institutions and government due to BBBEE requirements.

It is time to counter BBBEE.
